CTS-management expects further increase in order volumes

Container Terminal Salzburg increases frequency of trains and plans to continuously expand its combined transport capacities until 2013

Since the start of April 2011 the frequency of trains has been rising at the Container Terminal Salzburg. Additional trains are weekly operating between Hamburg/Bremerhaven and Salzburg. The Hamburg – Bremerhaven route is served with block trains with direct calls and short transit times. Moreover the CTS has recently been integrated into the national block train network „NINA – Nationales Intermodal Netzwerk Austria“ of the Austrian railway enterprise ÖBB. Thus in addition to single wagon traffic, also direct block train services are available ex Salzburg to Austria’s most important terminals.

For 2011 Dr. Leonhard Schitter expects 2.5 per cent-growth to 250,000 TEU. Around 90 per cent of transportations are currently carried out for Austrian companies, 10 per cent for companies from nearby Southeastern Bavaria. “We want to increase our commitment on Bavaria’s market“, Schitter explains the future plans of CTS.

In the past two years CTS has expanded its warehousing capacities in Salzburg by 1,000 units or about 30 per cent to 4,500 containers. They also invested into an improved IT system for the management of the container slots on the 98,000 m² area. The expansion of the capacities shall be finished by 2013.
