DPD Austria expands wine logistics services

Pick-up by Phone“ by B2B-parcel service DPD Austria offers wine growers fully-automated release of pick-up orders:

Austria’s leading private parcel service launches a new product for wine logistics. "Pick-up by phone" is a fully automated customer dialogue for the release of pick-up orders. This means that users can place an order for pick-up on the next day by phone or text message round the clock. "This service is especially interesting for wine growers as they often spend their work days in the vineyards", Rainer Schwarz, general manager for DPD Austria, says.

Last year DPD Austria shipped a total of about 300.000 wine boxes. The most popular packaging in the 2010/2011 season was the 12-pc box accounting for 136.289 units and the 6-pc box (59.777). The 3-pc packaging was shipped 32.400 times. "We noticed that there is a trend towards bigger parcels with more bottles", so Schwarz.

DPD Austria (Direct Parcel Distribution) with headquarters in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna specialises in national and international B2B parcel distribution. The company employs about 1.500 people in different locations in Austria and disposes of a transport fleet comprising 900 vehicles. In 2010 they transported 37,5 million parcels.
