Damco achieved significantly improved 2010 result

A.P. Moller – Maersk’s forwarding and logistics branch strives for growth in air freight and emerging markets in 2011

Damco, the worldwide active provider of forwarding and logistics services, registered growth in all areas throughout the year 2010. Chief Executive Officer Rolf Habben-Jansen is particularly proud about the improvement of the Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) from USD 45 million in 2009 to USD 85 million. The EBIT margin rose 0.9 percentage points to 3.2 per cent. The annual turnover generated by 10,500 employees at 280 locations amounted to USD 2.7 billion, which means it was up 22.7 per cent on 2009.

According to Habben-Jansen Damco grew more than most of their competitors in the reporting period. This was related to a gain of market shares. Globally forwarded sea freight rose 13 per cent to 610,000 TEU. Air freight volume was 24 per cent up on 2009 with 75,000 tons. In the segment Supply Chain Management (SCM) 48 million cubic metres (up 18 per cent), which is equivalent to around 2 million TEU was handled.

In 2011 the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group´s logistics and forwarding arm will focus on organic growth. Their planned investments are targeted to strengthen their position in global air freight business and in the emerging markets in Asia and South America.
