More than 4 million tons of goods at Danube port Straubing

Double-digit growth in waterway-throughput and many new company settlements in Straubing-Sand

The waterway throughput in the Danube port Straubing had a high flight in 2010. With 609,000 tons the 2009 figure was exceeded by 24 per cent, they say in a press release. The driver of this positive development was biomass logistics. Renewable resources accounted for three thirds of all transhipments.

As for rail traffic, the 2010 annual statistics shows a plus of 21 per cent to 305,000 tons. Road traffic throughput rose 28 per cent to 3.2 million tons. With 4.1 million tons throughput in total, Straubing-Sand was by its own account the best performing cargo traffic centre in Lower Bavaria. The location was ranked third among the twelve Bavarian ports and was able to reduce the distance to the market leaders Regensburg and Aschaffenburg.

In the trimodal industrial and logistics park Straubing-Sand more than 75.000 m² industrial area was marketed to six different settlers in 2010. In addition to three small property sales to the printing enterprise MK-Druck and the two newly set up businesses Pielmeier Engineering and BAIS-Akademie, 6 hectares were marketed to industrial enterprises. The Andorfer company is setting up a new facility to process and finish metal in Straubing-Sand. The machine engineering company Sennebogen has secured an expansion area. The new company Süd-Chemie plans to build a pilot facility for the production of cellulosic ethanol in 2011.
