DANX partners with ELECTRON aerospace to develop zero-emission cargo plane

DANX Carousel Group has chosen to invest in ELECTRON aerospace to launch ‘Electron 5’, which is a battery-powered electric aeroplane which will make freight deliveries across Europe.

ELECTRON is currently developing the aeroplane which is designed to carry 500kg over 500km on a single charge.

The aeroplane will only require short runways, and will have access to ‘five times more’ European Union airports compared to many larger freight aircrafts.

This will enable cargo to be flown directly on the shortest point-to-point route while bypassing existing logistics hubs which could be congested.

Lars Ryssel, Group Chief Solutions Officer (CSO), DANX Carousel said that sustainability was an important factor in developing the aircraft, but “the inclusion of the Electron 5 aircraft in [DANX’s] operations will also bring operational improvements.”

He added that “the ability to launch and land closer to pick-up and delivery points will cut down on journey lengths, allowing [the company] to offer customers later cut-off times and better serve hard-to-reach areas.

“Moving away from the traditional hub-and-spoke distribution of air cargo to a point-to-point model means [the company] can avoid congestion at busy airports.”

The cargo plane is set to hit the market in 2027.

DANX Carousel’s investment is among multiple sustainability initiatives being rolled out by the company, with electric vehicles and trains also being trialled within its operations.
