DB Schenker Logistics offers new sorting facility for shoe logistics

A new sorting facility in Kolding, Denmark is enabling DB Schenker Logistics to respond to the fashion industry’s growing need for deliveries to retailers.

The new Schenker facility provides logistics services to retailers in both the Nordic countries and the rest of Europe.

At full capacity, the system is able to handle a minimum of one million boxes per year. The productivity and strength of the facility were already evident during the last peak season for shoes.

For Danish shoe retailer Shoe-D-Vision, switching to the DB Schenker solution has shaved around 10% off the company’s total logistics costs.

The system is set up on posts, with a sorting platform positioned three metres above the floor, allowing the floor area to be used as loading lanes for individual receivers and hubs. The sorting facility covers an area of around 660 m2. A dedicated cross-docking team has also been established.

The Kolding facility is fully linked to DB Schenker’s European and global traffic networks.

Fashion industry customers also benefit from the DB SCHENKERskybridge solution, which combines air and ocean freight and reduces transport times by between 30% and 50% in comparison with straight ocean freight, and reduces costs by the same percentages compared with pure airfreight.
