DB Schenker Logistics: Two new Turkey products

DB Schenker Logistics launches Bosporus Shuttle between Germany and Turkey and starts expansion of land transport network in Turkey
 
The national DB Schenker organization in Turkey is currently establishing its own domestic network for procurement and distribution.
 
The globally operating transport and logistics provider DB Schenker is launching two new products in traffic with Turkey. These days the company has launched the Bosporus Shuttle, a regular service with three weekly rail services on both courses from and to Cologne, Sopron and Turkey. The trains cover the 2,300 kilometres route between Nuremberg and Istanbul within five days. The service is a multi-client-product with planable capacity for intermodal and conventional transportations on the road.
 
In addition the national DB Schenker organisation in Turkey is establishing its own national network for procurement and distribution, which are implemented in three stages. The first stage covers the starting point in Edirne, Istanbul as well as the distribution hubs Bursa and Izmir. The second stage covers transports between Eskisehir, Afyon and Antalya. These stages of the expansion project have been completed. Stage three, beginning in Istanbul, covers the route from Ankara to Aksaray and Mersin all the way to Ganziantep, with further route dispersal on up to eight courses into the interior of the country, from each hub, respectively.
 
Principal importers include Germany, the USA, China, Hong Kong and France. DB Schenker is active primarily for customers from the automotive, electronics, machine, crystal glass and pharmaceutical sectors. Germany is the most important export destination for Turkey, followed by the United Arab Emirates, India and the USA.
 
With some 85,000 shipments weighing a total of approximately 185,300 metric tons, DB Schenker Arkas land transport activities by road and rail showed a very positive development in 2012. The company is ranked among the top three air freight service providers in Turkey.
