DB Schenker’s large-scale investment in Salzburg right on schedule

New DB Schenker “Euro-Hub” ready for takeoff by 2010

The construction of the new DB Schenker forwarding terminal in Salzburg-Bergheim is right on schedule. “In spite of the long and cold winter we are just right on schedule“, announces Walter Mönichweger, Head of the Salzburg department of DB Schenker. The new facility is to be opened at the beginning of the year 2010. This is when activities, which are currently effected in Salzburg Vogelweiderstraße and Bergheim, will be joined at one location.

With a total investment of EUR 26 million DB Schenker constructs an administrative office building with 3,500 square metres, a 4,000 square metres logistics hall and a facility for goods throughput with 115 docking gates in Salzburg-Bergheim. Like the stations in Paris, Malmö and Friedewald (Germany) the new terminal will serve as “Euro Hub”. After operation has started, 40 electrically operated industrial trucks and an underground conveyor chain with an average capacity of 400 tons or 680 pallets per hour will be used for goods manipulation.
