Revenues and profits of Deutsche Bahn AG posted double-digit gains in 2010

 

The German railway company Deutsche Bahn presented a very pleasing result for the 2010 fiscal year at the annual results press conference. Revenues as well as profits posted double-digit gains, all of their business divisions are back in the black. Last year the number of persons travelling via Deutschen Bahn rail surged by 42 million.

The DB group’s revenues rose by EUR 5.1 billion (+17.3 percent) to EUR 34.4 billion. At the same time, DB increased its net capital expenditures by 14.3 percent or EUR 259 million to EUR 2.07 billion. DB was able to record substantially higher volumes in its rail freight transport, global transport and logistics activities. In total they were able to increase transport performance by 12.6 percent to 105.8 billion ton kilometres. The volume of goods shipped jumped by 21.8 percent to 415.4 million tons. Furthermore, the train capacity utilization rate also climbed by 3.8 percent.

The DB Schenker Logistics business unit posted favourable development in all of its segments and regions. The higher revenues and profits were mainly driven by strong economic growth in Germany and the Asian markets. The number of shipments noted in European land transport increased by 15.4 percent. Air freight volumes rose by 18.7 percent, ocean freight volumes by 15.7 percent, and the contract logistics business grew by 13.7 percent. Total revenues posted for the business unit increased by 26.7 percent.
