DFDS Line starts new service between Lübeck and Klaipeda

New RoRo-connection by shipping company DFDS between Lübeck-Travemünde and Klaipeda offers connections to European intermodal transport systems

The Danish shipping company DFDS complements their service by a new Ro-Ro connection between Lübeck-Travemünde and Klaipeda in Lithuania. The first departure ex Travemünde is scheduled for 7 June. The MS “Botnia Seaways” will mainly transport trailers on the new connection three times per week.

Based on the current market conditions in the Baltic Sea, DFDS has decided to consolidate their routes. The number of departures offered by the shipping company between Kiel and Klapieda will not be affected by this move. The decision in favour of Lübeck was primarily made due to the expanding intermodal connections of this port. A significant part of the cargo will be transported by rail with regard to pre- and onward carriage.

Sebastian Jürgens, general manager of the  Lübecker Hafengesellschaft (LHG): „This is a beautiful day for the LHG: This year it was our declared objective to expand our Baltic sea traffic. At the same time this means that our intermodal competence is being appreciated. We now have all leading shipping companies on location and offer  transports to all Baltic States as well as Russia.
