DHL continues LCL network expansion

DHL has opened its new ocean freight terminal in Osaka, and enhanced its LCL services between Osaka and Hong Kong and from Sri Lanka to Canada.

DHL has enhanced its ocean freight transportation network in the Far East with the opening of a new ocean freight terminal in the Port of Osaka and the launch of new weekly direct LCL services from Osaka to the company’s multinational gateway in Hong Kong.

The new direct LCL services from Osaka offer enhanced convenience, cost efficiency and shorter transit times to customers throughout Kansai, particularly from Osaka, since LCL loading in Japan’s Kansai region were previously conducted at the Port of Kobe.

Shipments from Osaka are transported to DHL’s multinational gateway in Hong Kong for global distribution, connecting to the key markets including the Mediterranean, Europe and Middle East.

DHL has also launched a direct LCL service from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Montreal, Canada.

The new Colombo – Montreal service will serve to boost the significant trade volumes between Canada and Sri Lanka; bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to CAD$450 billion in 2009.

Both services are operated by DHL’s in-house carrier, Danmar Lines.
