DHL expects strong growth in the Life Science segment

DHL Global Forwarding officially presents its Life Science Cross Docking Hub at the Vienna airport

The top management of the worldwide active transport and logistics group DHL Global Forwarding assumes orders from the Life Science industry to rise strongly. At a customer event in Vienna Thomas Nieszner, Chief Executive Officer Europe/CEE, named the producers of pharmaceutical products and generics the “key industry” of the enterprise. DHL Global Forwarding emphasises this by establishing a Life Science Hub in Vienna. Swissport operates the cross docking facility on behalf of the forwarding enterprise. The site is located in the Cargo Nord sector of the Vienna International Airport and has two segments of each about 250 m². One module is designed for throughput and interim storage of Life Science items in a temperature range from 2 to 8 degree Celsius. The other part of the building is designed for the handling of “Ambient Products” (15 to 25 degree Celsius). Per year, around 20,000 pallets shall pass the certified competence centre, which will be complemented this summer by a throughput warehouse for temperature-controlled general cargo road transport of DHL Freight at the Vienna airport.

DHL Global Forwarding is a leading provider of services in the segment of global forwarding of Life Science products. The Austrian branch has handled around 1,100 cool containers of pharmaceuticals and generics last year.
