DHL Express opens new service centre in Styria
Total investment EUR 5 million: New building at site in Peggau enables DHL Express to handle shipments efficiently and resource-conserving as of now
DHL Express Austria has officially opened the location in Peggau, which was built with an investment of EUR 5 million, on 2 October. In 2013 the express delivery company had decided to merge its two Styrian locations Werndorf and St. Michael to form a new, modern service centre in the municipality in order to strengthen its Austrian network and to connect Styria to the national and international market even better in future.
The convenient location of the area at junction Peggau-Deutschfeistritz in the north of Graz permits both faster access to the national hub of DHL Express in Linz and the Linz Hörsching Airport, and a fast connection towards Bruck an der Mur. By consolidating sites each year more than 314 tonnes of CO2 can be saved. Now around 100 persons of the
900 employees of DHL Express throughout Austria have their jobs in the new service centre in Styria.
Ralf Schweighöfer, Country Manager of DHL Express Austria: „The building perfectly tailored to our needs allows us to efficiently and also resource-efficiently handle increasing shipment volumes. Further advantages result from the optimisation of our processes in the warehouse and on the road.“ In the future 65 tours are used to connect the industry in Styria and beyond even faster to international markets.
In general, the new site allows a more economical operation of transport routes. The truck traffic is reduced by 17 per cent compared to the current situation, the number of delivery tours by 9 per cent.
„In line haul traffic – that is, the line between our stations and the hub in Linz – we’re talking about at least 133,000 kilometers a year,“ said Ralf Schweighoefer. „This is a little more than three times around the world.“ The energy-saving building technology consumes 58 per cent fewer resources than before.
