DHL launches direct LCL service from the U.S. to Austria

Weekly LCL liner service of DHL Global Forwarding from New York to Vienna

The logistics enterprise DHL Global Forwarding announced the launch of a direct groupage cargo service (LCL) from New York to Vienna. The new service reinforces the trade relations between the United States and Austria. The route forms a part of the market offensive for intercontinental groupage cargo transport. Since the beginning of the year nine direct LCL routes have been established. They connect New York with Lodz (Poland), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Zurich, Vienna and Keelung (Taiwan); Chicago with Hong Kong and Santos (Brazil) as well as Los Angeles with Iquique (Chile) and Xingang/Tianjin in China. According to their own statement DHL operates the world’s largest LCL network. Every year more than 2 million cubic metres of LCL cargo are forwarded.

The new LCL service will be operated with Danmar Lines, the DHL Global Forwarding group’s own shipping company. It offers weekly guaranteed departures. Transport time of consignments for Austria is thus shortened by around five days. Exportations from America will be dispatched on Thursdays from New York to Austria. Transportation from port to port will take 14 days. Ex Vienna the supply chain can be prolonged to Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia.

We are expanding our LCL service portfolio by the operation to Vienna and the full end-to-end supply chain management, which covers collection at the place of departure, consolidation and deconsolidation, delivery to the end destination, and on demand customs clearance at the place of departure and the destination“, says Ronald Friedreich, Chief Operating Officer Airfreight, Oceanfreight, IIS of DHL Global Forwarding. “In particular small and medium sized enterprises, who are in need of flexible and cost-effective transport solutions in these markets will appreciate our LCL service“, adds Oliver Thunhart, Head of Marketing and Sales at DHL Global Forwarding.
