DHL launches New York – Durban LCL service

DHL has launched a new, direct, weekly LCL service from New York City to Durban, South Africa.

The service will serve as a gateway for US customers wanting to break into the African market with the option of transporting small amounts of cargo. Instead of routing via Europe, the direct service will reduce transit times, freight costs and carbon footprint.

The service will enable customers to target Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Pretoria in South Africa, Gaborone in Botswana, Maputo, Beira and Nacala in Mozambique, Harare in Zimbabwe, Lusaka in Zambia, Port Louis in Mauritius, Maseru in Lesotho, Manzini in Swaziland, Luderitz and Walvis Bay in Namibia, Luanda and Cabinda in Angola and Matadi in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Durban is the largest container terminal in the southern hemisphere, and the Port of Durban handled more than 74 million tons of cargo during the 2008/2009 fiscal year.
