Acquisition of Metallbau Nick GmbH enlarges range of services for the customers of the Pfenning group
Headquartered in Viernheim the Pfenning group, a leading logistics company in Germany, expands its service portfolio. Becoming effective retroactively from 1 July 2010 the enterprise has taken over Metallbau Nick GmbH based in Lampertheim. A minority stake of twenty per cent is to remain held by Matthias Nick, who keeps his position of Managing Director. Both parties have agreed to keep the price of the transaction confidential. With more than 50 specially skilled employees the metal specialist processes steel pipes, steel plates and special profiles made from aluminium. The customers are from the processing industry, mainly from the fields of furniture production, medical technology and shop fitting. A great depth of production combined with their own powder coating facility, as well as high flexibility also for small and medium quantities, give the enterprise significant competitive advantages as they state. For more than ten years the contract logistician Pfenning has been organising the processing and just-in-sequence delivery of steel profiles for its automotive customers. “By integrating an established metal processor we want to offer our customers an even higher value added“, the owner of the company Karl-Martin Pfenning names the reason for this step of expansion. The company acquisition gives his company the opportunity to provide certain segments of steel processing that were previously outsourced on their own and benefit from cost advantages in the future. As a specialist for contract logistics in the fields retail (food retail trade), FMCG, automotive and chemicals the Pfenning group offers individual logistics solutions from one source. With 1,800 employees at 40 locations in Germany, Hungary and Romania the private enterprise has generated a turnover of EUR 220 million in the year 2008.
