Domino’s strengthens UK supply chain with 15 new trucks

Pizza chain Domino’s has agreed to hire 15 Mercedes-Benz trucks as well as eight Scania rigids and eight DAF tractors as part of a five-year full-service contract agreement with Asset Alliance Group. 

The 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Actros 2532L trucks will be based at the Domino’s depots in Warrington and Avonmouth. These will be used to help deliver stock to franchisees in the northwest and southwest of the England. Meanwhile, the eight DAF XF 530 tractor units will be used to pull double-deck trailers from the Warrington facility to Avonmouth.

The Scania P320 trucks, which are set to be available for use in January, will be based at the companies’ Milton Keynes headquarters and will deliver supplies to Domino’s branches in London.

Leon Roche, Transport Network Optimisation Manager at Domino’s, believes that the new trucks “will enable [Domino’s] to maintain [its]high level of service to franchisees”.

One of the most appealing features of this deal to Domino’s is the Carrier Transicold Iceland engineless refrigeration units that are fitted in the Mercedes-Benz trucks. Roche explains that “the fridges run electrically off the truck engine’s power take-off instead of using a separate diesel engine”, describing this as “another step in Domino’s strategic plan to go carbon-free in the future”.
