DSV enters the Central American market

New company in Costa Rica will accompany the customers of the Danish transport- and logistic group DSV in their expansion plans in Central America

Comforted by the success of the expansion in South America, DSV Group has decided to expand to Central America starting with a new company in business friendly Costa Rica. The company will focus on air and sea freight forwarding services to and from Costa Rica and will be able to arrange regional road transportation within Central America through the group’s agent in the neighbouring countries.

Jens Bjørn Andersen, Group CEO explains: “Central America was one of the last blank spots in the DSV network. Comforted by the success of our expansion in South America in the past 3 years, we have decided to expand to that area starting with a new company in Costa Rica, which is one of the most developed and most stable economies in the region. San Jóse is also a regional hub for many multinationals who handle their Central American operations in Costa Rica.”

Costa Rica has been a magnet for foreign investment in recent years, thanks to its stable government, its growing GDP per capita and its business-friendly policies. It has been ranked by Transparency International as one of the more advanced countries in Central America in the fight against corruption.

The country is known as a pioneer in renewable energy (targeting to be carbon neutral by 2021) and in the development of sustainable tourism. The availability of an educated workforce has led several multinational companies to choose Costa Rica as the location for their regional shared service and call centres.
