duisport handles 12 percent more containers

The container throughput by Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport) rose by 12 percent in the first six months of 2017 to EUR 2.01 million. Container handling accounts for about half of the total cargo throughput and is the most important goods segment of the duisport group, reeads a press release of the company.

In the period from January to June 2017, the total cargo throughput increased by 7 percent to 34.8 million tonnes. While the shipping volume reached the high level of the previous year, the throughput of volumes by rail rose by 14 percent, while truck loads increased by 7 percent.

For the second half of the year, the world’s largest inland port expects modest growth “as a good throughput level has already been achieved in the same period last year”, stated duisport’s CEO Erich Staake.
