ECT and Evergreen: 35 years of successfull cooperation

Port of Rotterdam: Europe Container Terminals (ECT) and Evergreen Line from Taiwan celebrated their cooperation

On the 7th of May 1979, the ‘Ever Vital’ of Evergreen Line moored alongside the quay of the ECT City Terminal. The arrival of this ship marked the start of the successful cooperation between shipping line Evergreen from Taiwan and ECT. On Tuesday the 13th of May 2014 – 35 years later – ECT celebrated this milestone together with all of the Evergreen employees.

Both companies reflected on this special moment during a gathering at the office of Evergreen. ECT President Jan Westerhoud recalled that Evergreen was one of his first contracts immediately after he joined ECT. He considers Evergreen an important and loyal partner for ECT. According to Mr. Herbert Lin (President Evergreen Benelux), the shipping line feels the same way about ECT and is highly satisfied with the cooperation.

Together with the ‘Ever Vigor’, the ‘Ever Vital’ was one of the first two container vessels the Taiwanese shipping line had built in 1977. The ‘Ever Vital’ had a capacity of 1,214 TEU; Evergeen’s largest vessel at present is the ‘Thalassa Hellas’ which has a capacity of 13,808 TEU. In October 2013, it set a new handling record for ECT during her maiden call to the Delta Terminal with 6,750 containers (11,500 TEU).
