EGSAC appoints IBL in Mauritius

New member connects the Indian Ocean with Europe

EGSAC – the consortium of independent cargo GSSA companies – has appointed IBL Cargo GSA as its exclusive member for Mauritius. EGSAC now has 32 members with 80 bases in 35 countries.

IBL Cargo GSA is an autonomous division of the publicly-listed Ireland Blyth Group, which undertakes diverse activities including financial services, fish processing, engineering, aviation, shipping and distribution.IBL Cargo GSA is an IATA-accredited GSSA which represents British Airways World Cargo, Corsairfly, Thomsonfly, Air Madagascar and Comair. It is based at the country’s SSR International Airport.

Says IBL Cargo GSA’s Manager, Lino Silvio: “The Mauritian airfreight export market is around 20,000 tonnes per year, 90% of which is textiles, with the balance being general cargo and perishables. Liberalisation has led to excess capacity and rate wars, but there are areas of potential growth such as our fish processing industry, which should materialise in the next couple of years. We are delighted to have been selected as EGSAC’s member for Mauritius, which will assist in our goal to position this country as an efficient transit point connecting the Indian Ocean with Europe and the rest of the world, possibly using regional short-haul freighters to connect with intercontinental linehaul services.”
