Elvis launches first system network for part loads in Germany

Elvis Partload Network: New part loads hub in Knüllwald handles 700 to 800 tonnes of part loads per night

Elvis Teilladungssystem GmbH has inaugurated its part loads hub in Knüllwald, northern Hessen, on 16 June 2012. The facility including a 10,000 m² transhipment hall started operation already one month ago. The master of the construction works and owner of Germany’s first part loads hub is Elvis Teilladungssystem GmbH, who is operating the Elvis Part Load Network. The investment totals to EUR six million.

Since the start of operations 63 forwarders and freight carriers are exchanging between 700 and 800 tonnes of part loads per night in Knüllwald. As opposed to general cargo systems, transhipment is carried out in the form of lateral loading and unloading at ground level. The system is designed for part loads but can also handle bulky, heavy shipments with up to 17 storage spaces and single packages with a maximum length of 4.50 metres without damage.

“Part loads are treated like a stepchild of transport logistics business“, Jochen Eschborn described the initial situation in his opening speech. “Full loads are comparably easy to handle; general cargo networks are systemised solutions for single pallets. But tiresome part loads in-between are causing troubles to freight carriers. Either half-loaded trucks are transporting part loads – or part loads can be joined thanks to some kinds of tricks in disposition, which is however becoming rare due to the dense frequency of delivery dates.“ The Elvis Part Load Network consists of a system network for part loads, based on a hub-and-spoke system known from general cargo networks.
