Emirates places mega order with Boeing

Boeing receives order from Emirates for 50 Boeing 777-300ER and option for 20 more jobs:

The aircraft manufacturer Boeing received the biggest single aircraft order in dollar value in the company’s history. The Emirates airline placed the single largest in Boeing’s history for an additional 50 aircraft of the 777-300 ER type, worth approximately USD 18 billion. The order also included 20 more 777-300 ER options valued at USD 8 billion. The agreement was signed during the Dubai Air Show on 13 November 2011 by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, and Jim Albaugh, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. GE 90-115B engines will power the ordered 777-300 ER aircraft.

Emirates operates the world’s largest fleet of 95 777s in service including nine 200 ERs, 10-200 LRs, 12 -300s, 61-300 ERs and three freighters. The Arabian airline had 40 777-300 ERs already on the order books, so with this record breaking long-range aircraft order that now stands at a firm order of 90 777-300 ERs.

“With 61 777 300-ERs currently in service, this record breaking dollar value order is another milestone for Emirates and affirms our strategy to expand our long haul destinations,” said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group. The 777-300ER will be operated in a three-class configuration. It offers a cargo payload of 20.1 tons.
