Environmental certificate for the Port of Rostock

Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock company certified according to ISO 14001 standard; environmental awareness is a continuous process within the company

In order to further boost the environmental awareness among the employees of the Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock company, and to make it visible internally and externally, the company had decided to establish an environmental management system two years ago. Therefore environementally relevant processes were analysed, optimised and documented.

The implementation of the environmental protection system within the individual organisational units has now been certified through DNV GL SE Business Assurance Germany (former GL), according to the ISO 14001 standard, and completes the quality management according to ISO 9001, which has been applied in the Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft company since 2005.

„By volontarily introducing this environemental management system we want to fulfill our responsibility as a company and further reduce our environmental impact. This is a continuous process, taking into consideration environmental aspects of our daily operations“, says Ulrich Bauermeister, managing director of Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock mbH. They are also aiming to incite other port operators to apply for a certification.

The Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock company will purchase climate-friendly, gas-driven cars, operate a photovoltaic system to contribute to the seaport’s own energy supply and test the installation of energy-saving LED lights on the port area.
