Expansion of the Linz container terminal and the port railway
Over the next few months and years, the Port of Linz will be shaped by the “Project Neuland”. This master plan includes the extension and modernisation of the shunting yard in the Linz citpy port, and the enlargement of the container terminal. The implementation of the latter project is planned to for the years 2019 to 2021.

The conversion and expansion will enable easier and faster operation in the future.”
To ensure efficient and fast operation, the security system is renewed. Thus, the station can be remotely controlled from Zentralstellwerk Linz. In addition, it is planned to expand existing tracks to block train length and to build a new, additional block train track. In the course of expansion, the entire shunting yard in the city port will be electrified. Afterwards, the electrification of the container terminal will follow. The total cost of modernisation of the shunting yard is around EUR 43 million.
On the existing area along the industrial line, three old lightweight warehouses will be demolished in order to extend the existing crane runway and to set up a second container gantry crane. The elimination of two diesel-powered reach stackers creates an additional storage area for around 1,700 TEU.
So far, the trucks access directly the grounds of the container terminal, whichout prior checks. However, as part of the AEO certification, the shipping documents of the containers concerned must be checked before access. In the current entrance area, land (approximately 8,700 m²) can be purchased by the City of Linz to implement this required space including sanitary facilities for the drivers.
