FedEx Express expects record volume on 12 December

Express transport enterprise FedEx Express moves more than 260 million shipments worldwide during Advent:

The world’s biggest express transport service provider FedEx Express is preparing for the day with the biggest volume of shipments in its history. On 12 December 2011 the employees of the enterprise will transport an estimated 17 million consigments around the globe in 24 hours. This is more than ever before and double as much as on a normal day.

The number of shipments FedEx moves on its busiest day in the year, has been rising constantly during the past years (2005 – 9.8 million consignments; 2006 – 10.6 million consignments; 2007 – 11.5 million consignments; 2008 – 12 million consignments; 2009 – 14.2 million consignments; 2010 – 15.6 million consignments).

For the period between the first weekend of Advent at the end of November and Christmas FedEx reckons with a transport volume of more than 260 million consignments worldwide. This is about 30 million pieces more than in the same period last year and equals a 12 per cent-increase.

As for the region Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa (EMEA) FedEx assumes, Tuesday, 20 December, will be the day with the most departing consignments. The enterprise reckons with a 2.3 per cent-increase on last year. The day with the biggest volume of incoming shipments in the EMEA region is 19 December, according to calculations of the group. Compared to 2010 a volume increase of 3.5 can be expected.
