Felbermayr offers trimodality for heavy cargo shipments to Vienna

Cooperation with the port of Vienna: Felbermayr corporate group becomes the exclusive operator of a heavy cargo platform in Albern

After Linz and Krefeld (Germany) the Felbermayr corporate group is now also establishing a trimodal site for the handling of oversized and overweight cargo in Austria’s capital. The location in the Viennese port Albern is to start operation this autumn.

On a 5,000 m² area in the Albern port a new facility for storage and transhipment of heavy shipments will be created, based on mobile cranes with 450 tonnes lifting capacity. The relevant long-term agreement with the port of Vienna was signed. It provides that the Felbermayr group can also use the facilities in the Freudenau port, like the ro-ro ramp for rolling load. The project in the capital involves extension and strenghtening of the quay facility and the creation of an open warehouse for heavy goods in the harbour basin of Albern.

DI Horst Felbermayr, managing director, has recently given the green light for the expansion of the heavy cargo port in Krefeld am Rhein, where the operated area will be enlarged by 15,000 m² to a total of 40,000 m² before the end of this year, and where a new warehouse for heavy goods will be built, including two 200 tonnes cranes. The investment is budgeted with about EUR 6 million.

Issue N° 11/14 of the Austrian transport magazine ÖVZ will feature a detailed report of the current developments with Felbermayr
