Forwarding Association fears for Austria as a business location

Mag. Wolfram Senger-Weiss, ZV-President claims for harmonisation of toll systems across Europe and rejects extension of the truck toll
The economy in the European Union is currently struggling with very low growth. As recent economic data show, Austria is strongly affected in particular. „An extension of the truck toll would considerably harm the logistics and business location Austria in this current situation,“ said Mag. Wolfram Senger-Weiss, President of the Austrian Central Association of Forwarding & Logistics on the occassion of the current debate about a possible extension of the truck toll.

An extension of the truck tolls to the lower ranking road network would cause additional costs, particularly in rural areas, and affect local companies and employees. In addition, the microwave technology currently used for toll collection would have to be changed to a GPS system, which would cause additional high costs.

„Compared with our neighboring countries, the legal framework for ‚Logistics Made in Austria‘ have become worse in recent years and caused a competitive disadvantage. To ensure added value and employment in Austria, there must be no further charges,“ says Wolfram Senger-Weiss.

„I demand the political representatives in federal and state governments to look beyond individual interests and to think about a European harmonistion of road toll systems instead of creating more new regional toll hurdles. Only unimpeded movement of goods within the EU enables us to withstand international competition,“ said the President of the Central Association of Forwarding and Logistics.

The task of the Central Association of Forwarding & Logistics (Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik) is to represent the interests of the industry and to strengthen Austria as a business location. It was founded in 1897 and is independent, non-partisan and transport-modal neutral. The 180 members employ 14,000 employees, with approximately 90 per cent of industry sales.
