Freight forwarder EDT NV (Antwerp) becomes part of SDV group

SDV reinforces its BeNeLux network by acquiring EDT and strengthens its know-how with respect to bulk shipments to and from Africa

The French transport and logistics group SDV announces the acquisition of the business of the Belgian freight forwarding company EDT (Antwerp). EDT, founded in 2001, is specialized in shipping conventional & project-related cargo, and also offers tailor-made solutions for small & medium-sized companies.

The majority of the cargo-flows managed by EDT consist of (dry) bulk cargo to and from Africa which has represented in 2012 about 8,000 TEU and 126,000 freight tons. SDV will keep on operating these flows under EDT name. Carl Boelens, Managing Director and founder of EDT will also join SDV. He will be assisted by another four staff.

With this take over SDV acquires extra know-how and intelligence with respect to the handling and shipping of bulk cargo. “We noticed that some of our customers consider a shift from container-transport to bulk shipments in West-Africa”, says Geert De Wilde, CEO Benelux for SDV.

In 2013 SDV Belgium (Antwerp, Brucargo and Ostend) realized an increase in turnover of 10%. SDV is market leader for shipments to, from and within Africa. Last year some 98,000 TEU and 12,000 roro-shipments have been handled by SDV Belgium.
