Frikus to be integrated into Salzburg’s Lagermax group

Lagermax group takes over Styrian transport company Frikus to consolidate its core business

A significant joining of forces is to take place within the Austrian transport logistics scene. The owners of the Styrian forwarding and transport company Frikus Frederick Kraftwagentransport und Speditions GmbH, headquartered in Zettling near Graz, sell the company due to strategic reasons. The Salzburg-based forwarding group Lagermax takes over the company mostly dealing with activities in the field of international transportation, contract logistics and automotive logistics as well as waste management with retroactive effect from 1 January 2012. The transaction is subject to the approval by competition authorities.

For Lagermax the divisions of Frikus are a perfect complement to the existing portfolio of services. Some units such as waste management and recycling highlight new areas in the range of services. "This acquisition strengthens our Austrian as well as Central and Eastern European presence and expand our network," says Alexander Friesz, CEO Lagermax.

The fields of activity of Frikus and Lagermax arise synergies in many areas. "The Frikus site in the port of Koper will serve especially as our car logistics hub for cars imported from Asia, Turkey, Spain and North Africa and the further distribution in Europe and strengthen our system," said Thomas Baumgartner, CEO Lagermax.

The family enterprise Lagermax has been existing for over 90 years. In the next few months is will implement a carefully planned integration of Frikus into the group. The company name Frikus will remain. The Styrian company currently employs 570 people and posted 2011 sales of EUR 65 million. Founded in 1928, the shipping company operates Austrian locations in Zettling (headquarters), Kalsdorf, Vienna and Gussing as well as offices in Hungary and Slovenia.

The Lagermax group has 50 own offices in eleven European countries, and offers a complex distribution network for all customers‘ needs. In addition to Austria, the network comprises offices in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. In 2011, the 2,410 staff generated total sales of EUR 305 million.
