FTA: Northern Ireland Assembly needs to “protect” supply chain in region

The Freight Transport Association has welcomed the re-opening of the Northern Ireland Assembly, saying it will provide “long-overdue reassurance” that logistics sector concerns can be prioritised by government in the region.

Seamus Leheny, Northern Ireland policy manager at the FTA, said the Assembly needed to prioritise infrastructure spending after “three years of stagnation” to “protect Northern Ireland’s trading relationships and its complicated, interconnected supply chain”.

“With the prospect of changing trading conditions after Brexit, NI’s businesses need and deserve a strong representative voice in its local assembly and executive.

Lehney also said that the coming months and years could be challenging as the United Kingdom moved into a new trading relationship with the EU.
