Gebrüder Weiss profits from LED lighting made by Zumtobel

Innovative solutions by Zumtobel considerably reduce CO2 emissions relating to lighting at Gebrüder Weiss facilities Gebrüder Weiss increases the use of energy

Efficient lighting and therefore has installed LED lighting solutions by Zumtobel in several of its locations. Thus, the international transport and logistics company has been able to reduce CO2 emissions relating to lighting at its freight hub in Pöchlarn, Lower Austria, by almost two thirds. There are also other business locations of Gebrüder Weiss, such as the company’s headquarters in Lauterach, Vorarlberg, where innovative lighting solutions have already had a positive impact on the company’s carbon footprint. Within the context of a strategic partnership with Zumtobel, other projects are being planned.

At the company’s Pöchlarn site, the conventional fluorescent tubes installed in a loading and unloading hall with a floor space of approximately 2.250 m² have been replaced by the TECTON LED continuous-row system solution. “We were looking for a solution suitable for an industrial application which we could use as a basic system and flexibly adjust to a variety of standard specifications for illuminating different areas of the hall. Thus, we have been able to reduce annual power consumption from 1.2 million to less than 465,000 kilowatt hours.

This results in a reduction of CO2 emissions related to lighting by almost 139 tonnes per year – amounting to just 38.6 per cent of the former level,” says Markus Nigsch, Head of real-estate and facility management at Gebrüder Weiss.

Positive results in terms of energy consumption were achieved with LED solutions provided by Zumtobel also in large-scale projects of Gebrüder Weiss regarding new buildings – for instance at the Wels in Austria logistics centre and at the Czech location of Jeneč. At the company’s headquarters in Lauterach, Zumtobel provided lighting systems for a new and an existing warehouse as well as for the head office. In addition, the open spaces outside the buildings were illuminated with LED outdoor luminaires by Thorn. Other projects are already in the pipeline.

“We are glad to be able to support a partner like Gebrüder Weiss in building new and refurbishing existing buildings of its logistic hubs.

Thanks to our know-how in the field of industrial lighting, we have managed to develop a customised lighting concept that can be applied at various locations. The LED products manufactured at the Dornbirn factory, which reduce energy consumption considerably, have played a major role in this context,” explains Thomas Bischof, Head the Business Division Zumtobel.
