Geis and babymarkt.de: Logistics cooperation in the Czech Republic

Babymarkt.de GmbH and the Geis Group launched a joint logistics project with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony: in VGP Park Chomutov in the Czech Republic, close to the German border, a new 17,000 m² warehouse will be built by the end of the year, and can be extended to 25,000 m².

In addition to the new building in Chomutov babymarkt.de has other central warehouse locations. At the headquarters in Dortmund and in the Czech city of Tuchoměřice, the articles are stored, picked, packed and sent to customers in 14 countries. With a total of 40,000 m² logistics space at the end of 2018, the company sees itself as perfectly positioned for future growth and for achieving market leadership.

In Chomutov, a large part of the orders from the 14 European countries which are served by the company’s online shops will be processed in the future. Apart from this six stationary branches are supplied. The Geis Group takes care of the entire warehousing from receiving, storage, order picking and packaging to the preparation of the shipments to 14 countries.

Well over 100 Geis employees will be working for babymarkt.de in the future. They will pick and pack some 1,000 orders daily. They will be supported by state-of-the-art conveyor and picking technology such as picking gloves with built-in barcode scanners.

“In this highly exciting project, we can fully exploit our strengths: our many years of know-how as a contract logistics partner for large online shops and our close-knit transport, logistics and service network in Central and Eastern Europe,” says Erik Lassen, Managing Director of the Geis logistics division.

“As the largest online shop in Europe for baby and children’s equipment, it is important to us that we are logistically perfectly prepared for our further growth,” says Bastian Siebers, CEO of babymarkt.de GmbH. “With the Geis Group we have found an experienced logistics partner, whose medium-sized structure means short decision-making paths and high flexibility.”

babymarkt.de GmbH with headquarters in Dortmund is Europe’s largest online shop for baby and children’s items. With a total of 450 employees, the company achieved annual turnover of EUR 122 million lately.
