Geis opens logistics facility for Fresenius Medical Care and Intersport

On 16 May, the Geis Group inaugurated its new logistics and technology center in Gochsheim near Schweinfurt. Around EUR 9 million were invested into the new 15,000 m² building. More than 100 new jobs have already been created. This number will be further increase in the future as the company plans two further construction phases on this site.

The new system with 10.5 meters internal height offers good conditions for complex logistics tasks. There is extensive storage capacity for up to 15,000 pallets and around 25,000 small load carriers and cartons. In addition, almost 800 m² of modern office space is available, with around 400 m² of expansion space. 17 loading and unloading bays ates enable fast collection and distribution of the goods.

Also in terms of technology the building is state-of-the-art: in addition to a sprinkler system, the highly efficient LED lighting and intelligent building control technology are part of the equipment. The complete home automation can be controlled via PC or smartphone.

More than 150 specialists from Geis Transport und Logistik GmbH are currently employed in the new logistics and technology center. They mainly provide services for their two major customers Fresenius Medical Care and Intersport Germany.

“For Fresenius Medical Care, we supply the Schweinfurt plant from Gochsheim,” says Erik Lassen, Managing Director of Geis Transport und Logistik GmbH.”In the new plant, we bundle all incoming goods of production material and spare parts and transport the goods to the factory on demand with shuttle trucks.” The factory supply is about highly sensitive components for the production of dialysis machines – the handling and logistics processes are hence very careful and transparent.

In the second major project, Geis is taking over customised warehousing for Nike products for Intersport. “Intersport has outsourced all delivery processes for Nike products,” explains Erik Lassen. “In Gochsheim, we have tailored more than 10,000 m² of the new building precisely to customer needs,” he adds.

Geis stores the sporting goods in Gochsheim, commissions orders and makes them available for distribution to 1,500 sales points in Germany. In total, the logistics service provider will order around 370,000 parcels containing more than 6 million individual pieces for Intersport in 2018.

Soon, the logistics center will also serve the countries Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary linked to Intersport Germany. “We want to provide our customers with the best possible support in their growth plans – for example in the field of e-commerce,” affirms Dr. med. Johannes Söllner, Managing Director of Geis Holding for Logistics Services. “At the same time, we are open to new customers and projects. For this purpose, we are planning two additional construction phases in addition to the building, each of which will cover more than 20,000 m² of logistics space.”

Since its founding in 1945, the Geis Group with its headquarters in Bad Neustadt has developed into a global full-service logistics service provider with more than 6,000 employees at 140 of its own network and logistics locations throughout Europe. The owner-managed company offers its customers the complete range of logistical services: from classic truck traffic and global air and sea freight to complex logistics services.
