GLP secures planning for East Midlands mega shed

Investor and developer GLP has secured planning permission for the development of up to 736,487ft2 of warehouse space at its 66-acre G-Park Ashby site in North West Leicestershire.

The planning consent allows for the development of either one or two units depending on customer requirements, which will be built to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ level and have 18m eaves.

The single-unit proposal envisages a cross dock unit with 145 dock and 13 level access doors as well as parking for 198 HGVs and 555 cars with three storey offices totalling some 35,000ft2.

The development will also benefit from innovative environmental features, such as rainwater harvesting and an online energy dashboard to help customers proactively manage their energy consumption.

“The proposals to redevelop a brownfield site will deliver significant economic benefits to the area including improved local infrastructure and creating almost 1,000 new jobs, at a time when the need for logistics has never been greater,” said Gwyn Stubbings, Planning Director, GLP. “The logistics industry will continue to play a vital and important role in supporting the economic recovery in the UK and this development will respond to the significant outstanding demand for modern and sustainable warehouse space.”

Planning and development consultancy Turley provided planning, strategic communications, EIA, and sustainability services for the scheme.

Joint letting agents are Knight Frank and MWRE.
