GLS Austria: First e-scooters in Graz, Linz and Salzburg

GLS Austria is the first parcel service provider in Austria to deliver packages with e-scooters. The test phase currently runs in Graz, Linz and Salzburg. If the result is positive, the electric vehicles with a capacity of 750 liters and a range of 100 kilometers will also be used for regular delivery.

The e-scooter reaches a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour and barely makes any noise. Furthermore, the compact design makes it easy to find a parking space. Thus, the electric vehicle is optimally suited for delivery in residential areas and shopping streets.

Conventional delivery vehicles deliver the parcels to the city, where they are reloaded onto the e-scooters. Thus, packages can also be delivered to addresses that are difficult to reach due to construction sites, driving restrictions for cars or the size of the road regarding vans.

Thanks to five batteries, the electric vehicle has enough power for a full tour. It is charged overnight using a standard electrical outlet.

“In all three cities, the e-scooter meets great interest and we get positive feedback from customers and recipients,” emphasises Dr. Axel Spörl, General Manager GLS Austria. The company expects the tests to show valuable insights in order to be able to use the electric vehicles sooner in normal operation.
