Goodyear confirms significance of EU tyre label for truck trailers

Study of Goodyear Dunlop shows gaps in knowledge of transport companies in the subject of EU tyre labels for utility vehicles

82 per cent of transport enterprises know the EU tyre label valid since November 2012; however just about five per cent of the responsible are familiar with the differences in performance of the individual label classes. This is the result of a study conducted by Goodyear Dunlop.

Only few of the respondents were able to correctly estimate the different performances of the individual label classes of fuel efficiency as well as wet grip. 4.8 per cent of the respondents to the Goodyear Dunlop study gave the correct answer to a question about the difference in fuel consumption between truck tyres of the fuel efficiency classes A and F on a basis of 100 kilometres, which is about 5 litres.

This was an astonishing result as transport companies can save money through selecting the right tyres. Tyre labels are a major aid for orientation. “A typical five-axle truck on long haul operations, would save EUR 4,344 a year if Goodyear Marathon tyres LHS II + label B fuel efficiency on steer tyres, Marathon LHD II + label C fuel efficiency on drive tyres, and Marathon LHT II trailer tyres of label A fuel efficiency are fitted in place of tyres graded D in fuel efficiency, if covering 100,000 kilometres with a fuel consumption of 32.26 l/100km and a fuel cost of EUR 1.50 per litre”, calculates Goodyear Dunlop Tires Austria Gmbh in a press information. A standard truck with A and F fuel efficiency label tyres could save up to about EUR 7,000 per year.
