Green van tax mustn’t penalise business, says FTA

The FTA has welcomed the Spring Statement’s ambitions for transport and infrastructure. It did however say that members will be interested but concerned about the Chancellor’s intention to “help the great British white van driver go green”.

“The announcement of a consultation on taxation rates for the least polluting vans is an encouraging move, but one which must not penalise those whose businesses rely on the vehicles they own,” said Christopher Snelling, head of UK policy. “Changing vehicles is a long-term business plan, not something which can be implemented overnight.”

He added that with rising inflation and Brexit uncertainties placing a strain on logistics operators, the measures announced the Spring Statement are an encouraging boost to the sector.
