Hamburg Port Marketing opens office in Hong Kong

New representative office by Hafen Hamburg Marketing (HHM) in Hong Kong to consolidate position of the German seaport in Southern China:

Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM) opens their own port office in Hong Kong in 2012. The previous cooperation of HHM with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Abroad will be discontinued as of the end of this year. The cooperation with the office in Shanghai, headed by Lars Anke, will continue. With regard to the activities in the market region China, the two HHM offices will coordinate their activities and support each other.

Starting in January 2012, Anne Thiesen will represent the interests of the Hamburg based seaport transport business and the whole region. The founder and general manager of the management consultancy Anne Thiesen Hong Kong is to organise contacts with the Chinese logistics and shipping companies, the industry, trade companies as well as a number of different interest groups. As she has spent the last six years in the Southern Chinese economic hotspot she is familiar with both cultures and looks back on a solid range of experience in German-Chinese business relations with a focus on the areas logistics, services, tourism, lifestyle & design as well as healthcare.

The growth market China has generated continuously increasing container traffic for the port on the river Elbe and with regard to overseas sea traffic it has become the most important trading partner of the Hamburg Port. Every third container that is handled in Hamburg, has its origin in China or is destined for the Chinese market. In the first nine months of this year, container traffic between Hamburg and the ports in China generated a volume of 2,3 million TEU which equals an additional increase of 11,7 per cent. 27 scheduled operations connect the port on the Elbe with China.
