HHLA group observes clear uptrend

Container throughput with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG gains speed

Against the background of the current economic dynamic Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) is confident about the further course of this year. Klaus-Dieter Peters, Chairman of the HHLA Executive Board, has raised the forecast last week. He expects a double-digit volume growth for the full year 2010, and a turnover beating last year’s level in spite of a highly competitive market. With the entry into service of a new state-of-the-art berth for large containerships in Hamburg, the opening of a hinterland terminal in Katowice (Poland), along with the launch of two joint ventures for expanding their hinterland network in Germany, the group has set the course for further growth, the manager said when publishing the interim report for January to June 2010.

HHLA’s container terminals in Hamburg and Odessa achieved throughput of exactly 2.633 million (TEU), 8.9 per cent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. At 798,000 TEU, the HHLA group’s intermodal companies transported 11.4 per cent more than in the first six months of 2009. Revenue was 0.8 per cent higher with EUR 505.1 million. Operating results (Ebit) reached the previous year’s level with EUR 81.4 million.

In the first half of 2010, revenue of the publicly quoted subgroup Port Logistics, HHLA’s core business, were at 490.7 million euros, 0.8 per cent higher than the previous year’s level. Earnings for the subgroup were 0.5 per cent lower at EUR 74.5 million.
