Impressive turnaround at Maersk Line in the year 2010

Container segment of the Danish shipping group Maersk Line moved around 7.3 million FFE in the 2010 business year

The Maersk Group (A. P. Møller-Mærsk A/S) has achieved a clear turnaround after the global crisis year 2009. In 2010 the group generated the best result in the company history – the shipping segment including its subsidiaries, which made heavy losses in 2009, mainly accounted for this record result, with an improvement of USD 4.7 billlion.

In 2010 they shipped 7.3 million FFE (40-feet container equivalent). This means a volume growth of around eleven per cent. The average income per 40 ft container improved by 29 per cent. For 2011 the Maersk Group expects a volume growth in the container shipping segment of six to eight per cent and a related profit, which will depend on possible fluctuations of the currency. Terminal business of Maersk (APM-Terminals), active in 15 countries, amounting to USD 4.25, has increased the operating result by 61 per cent to USD 793 million. In this segment continuous growth is expected for 2011 and a business result of just above the 2010 figure.
