Improving fulfilment operations key in the warehouse

A third of warehouse operators see improving the accuracy of their fulfilment operations as a top priority, according to Access Group’s WMS Survey.
Carried out by Redshift Research, the survey questioned 132 warehouse operators across the manufacturing, wholesale, and 3PL sectors. It accompanies Access‘ recent white paper „Inaccuracy- what’s your excuse?“.
It also revealed that 56 per cent of firms are still using paper instructions, and a half use paper receipts for goods received.
35 per cent of respondents use RF in the warehouse, 27 per cent use mobile or handheld computers, and 12 per cent use hands-free headsets.
Access believes that to improve fulfilment operations, real-time WMS controlling is the most appropriate option.
“Real time WMS controls a combination of technologies, such as RF communications, bar-coding, voice picking and other systems,“ said divisional director of supply chain solutions at Access Group, Ian Roper.
„It is the answer for picking quickly, accurately, and efficiently from fast-moving stock, and for the stock on the shelf to be replenished automatically as soon as needed.
“Warehouse IT is a differentiator that can give customers and clients accurate and transparent information about their goods and orders. Adopters will be rewarded with better quality clients offering better profit opportunities.”
