IMS expands its intermodal network to Hungary and Greece

IMS container operator expands to connect Vienna Freudenau to Sopron and Budapest from the end of June; calls in Sindos, Greece started earlier this month

IMS, neutral container operator, expands its intermodal network eastwards to Sopron and Budapest, effective 29 June 2015. The terminal in Vienna will serve as a hub for the other international trains operated by the company.

Offering six weekly departures and a capacity of 550 TEU, IMS operates a cost-effective connection for the terminals Sopron and Budapest Bilk from Vienna Freudenau. „The Vienna Terminal is as a hub for our other international trains, thus Hungary is connected to the entire network of the IMS. This allows also shipments from the northern and western ports, but also from the southern ports to Hungary. Also important continental terminals in Austria and Germany, such as Enns, Duisburg, Herne and many more are connected to the IMS network“, explains Mario Gruber, CSO IMS.

Since 1 June 2015 the Sindos terminal in Greece, via Vienna as well, is connected to the IMS network. This extends the range of the container operator to the east and to the south. “We can now offer a greatly expanded and sophisticated network for intermodal transport our customers,“ says Wolfgang Tomassovich, CEO IMS.

IMS was established in 1993 as a private container operator. The full service provider has locations in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Portugal as well as global partners, and offers all services associated with combined transport.

100 employees of IMS handled about 216,000 TEU in 2014, generating sales of EUR 48 million.
