Innovations and investments with DB Schenker Rail Polska

DB Schenker Rail Polska wants to establish as a premium service provider for international rail freight traffic

 

With new transport offers and targeted investments DB Schenker Rail Polska S.A. wants to consolidate its position in the polish market and push the new orientation of the enterprise. Regarding port business, more than 90 million Polish Zloty (PLN) will be invested into new handling equipment and cranes at the ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie in cooperation with the Port Authority before 2018. A new container terminal will shortly start operating, which will increase the throughput performance of DB Port Szczecin to an annual capacity of 220,000 TEU. Moreover they plan to modernise the fleet, as CEO Hans-Georg Werner said to journalists at the beginning of this week.

Since the beginning of this year the enterprise operates together with DB Schenker Rail Deutschland AG a new rail liner service to Silesia. In parallel the new transport offer shall help to elaborate the roll of Poland as a transit country and to develop international transportations on the east-west corridor. DB Schenker Rail Polska has been formed by the takeover of PCC Logistics and PTK Holding one year ago. Since then the reorganisation of the enterprises specialising on small and coal transportations was the goup’s focus. From more than 30 national individual companies, one internationally competitive enterprise was formed.

DB Schenker Rail Polska headquartered in Zabrze has around 5,500 employees and is one of the biggest employers in Silesia. The enterprise generated an external turnover at EUR 110 million in the first half of the year 2010. The volume of transported goods amounted to 42 million tons. The transport performance was around 1.7 billion ton kilometres.
