IRU signs MoU to strengthen cooperation with Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz Republic has all the chances to become the most important route for freight transportation using transport corridors of Central Asia

The IRU International Road Transport Union) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, to facilitate international road transport by effectively improving border crossing procedures as well as to increase transport security and road safety.

The IRU delegation, headed by Secretary General Umberto de Pretto, met with high level Kyrgyz officials including the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhantoro Satybaldiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erlan Abdyldaev, Minister of Transport and Сommunications, Kalykbek Sultanov, and Chairman of the State Customs Service, Adamkul Zhunusov.

The Kyrgyz Republic is the country, which takes advantageous transit position and owing to this it has all the chances to become the most important route for freight transportation using transport corridors of Central Asia. As of today, land transport of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as fast developing railroad network and growing air traffic system play important role in establishing links between Europe, the CIS countries and Asia Region countries.

Total length of motor roads in the Kyrgyz Republic is about 34 thousand km. Length of public roads is about 8810 km, others – 15190 km – road in cities, villages, agricultural, industrial and other enterprises. Length of international roads is 4163,0 km, state roads – 5678 km, local roads – 8969,0 km.
