Kaindl group wins the race for container terminal at Ennshafen

Upper Austria’s government to decide upon leasing the container terminal in the Ennshafen port (Enns) to Kaindl group on 14 July

The die is obviously cast in the case of the future operator of the container terminal at Ennshafen port. “The regional government will lease the facility to the Kaindl group from Salzburg from 2015, for 20 years. Infrastructure such as cranes will be sold. The final decision will be made on 14 July“, reports the newspaper Oberösterreichische Nachrichten in its weekend-issue.

According to the report the Cargo City Enns will be added to the container terminal. The Kaindl group backed by their partner Deutsche Bahn will pay a rent that will rise from EUR 800,000 to 950,000 in the course of the agreed period. This was enough to pay off the debts in 33 years, which Ennshafen had made as a provider of infrastructure during the past two decades.

After hard negotiations, they had been able to threaten the renter with sanctions, in case they are not providing access via railway to all forwarding and shipping companies in non-discriminatory manner. They planned to establish a point with participation of the regional government, where shippers could enter their complaints. The obligation to charge current market tariffs can be controlled in the event of a dispute as well. Except for some employees who will remain responsible for waterborne transhipment, the entire staff (about 35 persons) will be taken over with all rights by Kaindl.
