Kerry Logistics starts third phase expansion at Siam Seaport in Thailand

Kerry Logistics has broken ground on the expansion of its multi-purpose Kerry Siam Seaport (KSSP) in Laem Chabang, Thailand.

Construction has started on the third phase of the facility and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Growing demand at KSSP bulk and container terminals triggered the expansion with the installation of two new container rotation systems and 31 system boxes for bulk loading.

KSSP will also add two 150 m long berths which are expected to be completed by September 2012. Once completed KSSP will have ten operational berths with a total length of 1,500 m.

"The expansion has been driven by growing demand across the bulk and box trades and the new berths will help us increase capacity and efficiency across our terminals," said Kledchai Benjaathonsirikul, Executive Director, Thailand, Kerry Logistics.

KSSP has been operating since 1995, starting with four conventional berths with a combined length of 720 m. In 2011, throughput reached 6m tonnes of bulk cargo and 160,000 TEUs. The total annual throughput at KSSP is targeted to exceed 7m tonnes in 2012.
