Large assembly work has become a trend in the port of Bremen

Destination Colombia: BLG Cargo Logistics has loaded large components weighing up to 572 tonnes per piece in the port of Neustadt

The heavy cargo vessel Lone has recently taken over several components of a ship loading machine in the port of Neustadt in Bremen. During several days at berth the ship was loaded with large packages, weighing up to 572 tonnes per piece. In total the vessel took over 38,500 freight tonnes in Bremen to be shipped to the Puerto Bolivar port in Columbia. Once mounted, the device will be used to handle iron ore there.

FAM Magdeburger Förderanlagen und Baumaschinen GmbH, the manufacturer of the ship loading machine, has been using the port of Neustadt for assembly of large components, which are too big or too heavy to be carried by road or waterway. Last year an 800-tonnes ship loader was loaded to the Lone in Bremen.

BLG Cargo Logistics, operating one of Europe’s largest terminals for general and heavy cargo in the port of Neustadt, is equipped to meet the requirements of manufacturers of machines and facilities, and provides areas for assembly works. Moreover heavy cargo cranes, fork lifts and other machines can be provided on demand, to assist with the assembly. It is also possible to move large components.

According to BLG Cargo Logistics The good accessibility of the port contributes to Bremen’s position as a favoured location for large-scale assembly: „A good connection to the motorway network and many improvements of the conditions for large-scale and heavy lift transport in the ports of the hanseatic city promote the further development of this young business segment – partiuclarly in times when reaching ports via road is becoming difficult.”
