LCAG and MAH boosting Airport Leipzig/Halle

Strategic partnership between Lufthansa Cargo and Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding

The freight airline Lufthansa Cargo (LCAG) and the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding (MAH) are joining forces with the aim of jointly developing Leipzig/Halle Airport into one of the most efficient in Europe. To that end, the two companies have signed an agreement on strategic partnership. The key objectives of the agreement are e.g. to take into consideration the required area for the long-term strategic development of Lufthansa Cargo in Leipzig/Halle as well as joint efforts to raise efficiency, security and environmental protection at the Airport.

Aside from Leipzig/Halle Airport, the strategic partnership will also benefit its PortGround affiliate company. Lufthansa Cargo ranks among the airport’s most important customers. With its forthcoming move into the World Cargo Center, PortGround will assume freight handling for the cargo carrier in Leipzig/Halle.

Along with Frankfurt, Leipzig/Halle Airport is the most important freighter hub of Lufthansa Cargo. Within the context of an intercontinental joint venture with DHL Express, the freight airline has been operating liner services to logistics centres in Asia and the USA since 2007. In continuation of that cooperation, the Aerologic cargo carrier founded by the two joint-venture partners and based at Leipzig/Halle is scheduled to start operations with nine freighters of the Boeing 777-200LRF-type in 2009.
