LEHNKERING and Sachtleben Wasserchemie extend Cooperation Arrangement

LEHNKERING Chemical Transport GmbH and Sachtleben Wasserchemie GmbH have signed an agreement to implement a “logistics provider concept”, where LEHNKERING acts as the leading logistics provider.

This concept implies that LEHNKERING handles the transport management, coordination, handling and management of the processes involved in liquid bulk transport services for poly-aluminium chlorides for Sachtleben Wasserchemie from its German production sites in Duisburg, Ibbenbüren and Schwarzheide. The goal of this cooperation is to further improve the efficiency of the logistics processes at Sachtleben Wasserchemie.

Sachtleben Wasserchemie GmbH is one of the largest European providers of aluminium based flocculation agents. They ensure that any impurities found in water are bonded to form flocs, which can then simply be removed mechanically. Poly-aluminium chlorides, which are hazardous items, form the basis of those flocculation agents.

From the beginning 2011, and on, LEHNKERING will take over the complete scheduling and route planning for the liquid products in close cooperation with its customer. The two contractual partners introduced a tendering process for tanker transportation services in September 2010 in order to guarantee the ideal distribution of all the Sachtleben Wasserchemie shipments, which total more than 70,000 tonnes annually.

“We want to create a win/win situation in this tough market,” says Hans van den Bosch, Managing Director of Lehnkering Chemical Transport GmbH. “For this purpose, we want to make use of the strengths of highly qualified and specialist companies. We will also optimise the product groups and regions so that we can not only calculate operations better, but also reduce empty runs and cleaning processes and therefore fulfill our responsibility to ensure safety and protect the environment in the long run.”

After the two companies have cooperated on partnership basis for decades, they are convinced that by pursuing this new course they will not only create advantages for the shippers in the field of distribution, but also for all those involved and that these measures will lead to permanent increases in efficiency.

“Combining past strengths with new ones and becoming better and better in the long term by using open dialogue was the approach, which finally convinced our management team of the success of this LCT concept”, says Andreas Opalka, Managing Director of Sachtleben Wasserchemie GmbH. “Good service, a high degree of reliability from our partner and guaranteed supplies for our customers provide us with the opportunity to spend more time focusing on our core areas of competence.”
